Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina on Aug. 28, 2005 near its peak intensity.

Hurricanes 2005

2005 was a record-breaking hurricane season, with 27 named storms, 14 hurricanes, and 7 major hurricanes (Cat 3+). Many of these hurricanes made landfall as major storms with devastating winds, floods, and storm surge. Almost everyone on the U.S. Gulf Coast has been affected by at least one of these hurricanes. The following resources can aid you in helping those in desperate need of it.

Seashore District Volunteer Center VIM Project

On January 11, 2006, Bishop Coyner announced a Volunteers In Mission project to build a volunteer center in D'Iberville, MS, a suburb north of Biloxi. The project is being organized with both Indiana conferences, the Seashore District of the Mississippi Conference and coordinated by the Volunteer-in-Mission teams of Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis and Acton United Methodist Church.

Would you like to help? Read more about the project on the Indiana Area web site, including a flyer and registration form for volunteers.
