Slavery was taken for granted in 18th-century Britain, the leading slave-trading nation in Europe. The British shipped 70,000 men, women and children per year to the slave plantations. It was a very profitable business and provided major underpinning for the British economy. In this resource, "William Wilberforce", the program follows Wilburforce in his decades-long struggle against the enormous strength of the slavery establishment.
