J.C. Williams

African-American men and women who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, in an accredited school of higher education, are invited to apply for this scholarship offered by the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. The scholarship is in honor of Rev. J. C. Williams, Sr., who throughout his ministry encouraged and inspired countless persons to become Christian leaders and socially active in the community and world. If funding allows, a scholarship will be awarded annually to both an undergraduate and graduate scholar.

Scholarship Amount

The undergraduate or graduate scholarship amount may vary from year to year, because it is determined by available funding. Scholarships in the past have ranged from $500 to $1,200 dollars. It is our hope to increase the amount in the future. The annual scholarships will be awarded in a one-lump sum payment before the beginning of the school year.

Scholarship Continues Annually

Upon being selected as the Rev. J. C. Williams, Sr. Educational Scholar, an undergraduate and graduate scholar, will be eligible to receive this annual scholarship until they graduate. Selected scholars will continue receiving this annual scholarship if they provide yearly proof of enrollment in an accredited school of higher education. The result of this means, in some years a scholarship will not be available to a new undergraduate or graduate applicant because the scholarship is currently awarded to a selected scholar.

Applicant Criteria

An applicant must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be an African-American.
  2. Be an active participating member of a local North Indiana Conference United Methodist Church.
  3. Be socially active in your community and sensitive to world affairs.

  5. Be recommended by your local church pastor.
