Hispanic/Latino Ministries grants are offered by the North Indiana Conference to its districts and churches for the purpose of supporting the conference’s effort to develop disciples of Jesus Christ within the Hispanic/Latino population of northern Indiana.

Amount of Grants

The grants are for up to $2,000 depending upon the projects’ needs. The local church or district must match dollar for dollar the amount granted. Churches may receive only one grant within a twelve-month period.

Criteria

A grant request must meet the following criteria:

The church or district must support the effort with at least the same amount of funds as the amount being requested.
The project must have the full support of the church's pastor, administrative board/council, district superintendent (DS) and district Hispanic/Latino steering committee. If it is a district project, it needs the full support of the DS and district Hispanic/Latino steering committee.
The project must either:
1. help a non-Hispanic/Latino church increase its understanding and receptivity to Hispanics/Latinos, or
2. help develop Hispanic/Latino leaders for specific ministries (e.g. Module training, cultural/language-emersion experience), or
3. Help proclaim the gospel among Hispanics/Latinos through acts of inclusiveness and kindness (e.g. help with immigration issues, teach English, etc.), and invite them to respond affirmatively.
The grant may not be used to fund the salary or benefits of an employee.
The project must have a strategy that will be effective, given the target group’s unique context and culture, and it must be led by a leader that possesses the necessary skills and training to effectively implement the project.
The church or district must be willing to report its project’s progress to the Conference Hispanic/Latino Ministries Team.

Application Process

Completed applications should be sent to Ed Fenstermacher, Associate Director for Church Development and Revitalization, at the Conference Service Center. Copies of the application will then be distributed to the Hispanic/Latino Ministries Team. Deadlines are February 15th, May 15th, and September 1st. Grants will usually be considered within the month following the deadlines.

Selection Process

The team’s decision as to whether or not to fund the request will be based on how well the applicant’s project meets the above criteria and the availability of funds. Applicants will be notified as to the team’s decision shortly after the meeting. Applicants whose requests are denied can submit revised applications for consideration at a future Hispanic/Latino Ministries Team meeting.
