This is a one-time allocation to help new ministries with start up costs and existing ministries with emergency funds.

Ministries funded may come under one of two headings:
1. A New Ministry
2. An already funded Conference Ministry that finds itself in emergency cash flow difficulties.
A ministry that receives Emerging Ministries funding may apply for Conference Ministries funding by requesting a Conference Ministry form from the Conference Office at 1-800-783-5138, or on-line at www.nicumc.org. Once at the conference website, go to “Missions” and then to “Advance Specials.”
The Mission Funding Team has determined that some areas are not appropriate for funding because of their ability to be funded from other sources. These include Rescue Missions, Samaritan/Counseling Centers, Day Care/Preschools, Hospital/Chaplaincy programs, Habitat groups, and any other agency which has a greater possibility of raising funds from United Way, Foundations, etc. In addition, we expect that church-based day-care and preschools will be funded by the sponsoring church and not require Conference funding.
A grant may be $500 to $1,000. Ocassionally a project may be recommended for more.
Applications for Emerging Ministries Funds may be submitted at any time during the year.
The Resource Team meets meets regularly. Action may be taken on Emerging Ministry grants by electronic consensus or at its regular meeting. Forms are available from the Conference office, on the conference website, or from the Mission Funding Chairperson.
The amount of a grant may be paid out at either 100% or at the “existing % rate” based on the rate of church apportionment receipts at the time.
The agency/ministry requesting Emerging Ministry Funds does not need to be present to make the request. The Mission Funding Resource Team will notify the agency/ministry of action taken.
On occasion, another Resource Team the Conference Mission & Outreach Ministry Team may request funds from Emerging Ministries for a particular need. This must meet agreement of the full Ministry Team and not exceed the balance in Emerging Ministries funds. The Emerging Ministries funds should be available to meet needs of the regular askings.
