Please peruse ALL of our grants & scholarships for the ones that may apply to you or your church. Grants & scholarships contained on these web pages are available ONLY to churches (and individuals who are members of churches) in the North Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church. Leadership Development Important Notice Effective April 15, 2008, ALL leadership development grants are discontinued for the calendar year 2008 due to cuts in budget. Grants in all other categories continue to be available. If you have any questions, please contact Nikki Marker, Grants & Scholarships Team Chairperson, at nikkimarker@yahoo.com. Church Development Church Development New Congregation GrantGrants of up to $100,000 for new churches or multi-site/second campuses. Church Development Relocation Grant-LoanGrants (starting out as loans) of up to $50,000 for churches relocating to a new site. New Worship Service GrantGrants of up to $5,000 for the purpose of assisting local churches establish a new worship service in order to reach and disciple a new population group. Hispanic/Latino Ministries Matching GrantA matching-funds grant of up to $2,000 available to district and local churches for the purpose of supporting the NIC's effort to develop disciples of Jesus Christ within the Hispanic/Latino population of northern Indiana. SBC-21 ScholarshipAn additional scholarship for attending a Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century training event. Available once the General Church funds are reduced or unavailable. Educational & Training Berkey Memorial ScholarshipA scholarship of up to $500 to promote higher education focusing on women's studies. Named in honor of Karolyn Edwards Berkey. JC Williams Educational ScholarshipA scholarship of up to $1,200 for African-American men and women who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in an accredited school of higher education. Named in honor of the Rev. J.C. Williams, Sr. Merit Award ScholarshipA scholarship (usually $500-$1,000) awarded for merit to students attending full-time at a United Methodist-related institution of higher education. Recipients must be nominated by a local church. Laity Leadership Development ScholarshipA scholarship that pays ½ the designated cost for laity to attend a conference Ministry Development event. Out-Of-Conference Ministry Development Event ScholarshipA scholarship for full-time appointed clergy to attend a continuing education program outside of the NIC. One to Three Month Study/Renewal Leave ScholarshipA scholarship for full or associate members of the NIC to study and/or renew themselves for ministry. Missions Conference Ministry ApplicationAn application for agencies and churches to receive conference apportionment funds to assist them in their outreach ministry. Emerging Ministry GrantA one-time allocation of up to $1,000 to help new ministries with start-up costs and existing ministries with emergency funds. UMW Youth & Young Adult Project FundsThis fund provides scholarships for youth and young adults to participate in work/study/travel experiences which provide educational experiences and develop leadership in the youth and young adults of the NIC. Volunteers In Mission ScholarshipsTeam scholarships of up to $1,000 for youth or adult teams who wish to participate in a United Methodist-supported mission trip. Advocacy Handicap Accessibility GrantA grant of up to $500 to assist NIC local churches complete projects that make its ministries more accessible to the handicapped. Peace & Justice Project GrantA grant to help local churches promote, create or educate about Peace and Justice.
