Issues that are relevant to the local church. Topics available for discussion will include clergy taxes, clergy and employee compensation, accounting for church finances, managing church funds, creating budgets, and complying with the requirements of the Book of Discipline, along with other topics of current relevancy. The needs of the participants will determine the emphasis of this event however the following questions will be addressed: What should the church‘s financial reports look like?; What is an audit and how is it done?; Why does a church need a budget?; What income is taxable for a pastor?; How should a pastor plan for retirement?; What are the requirements of the Book of Discipline?. You are encouraged to attend if you desire to better understand the role of finance in your life and in the life of the local church.


DON SPENCE, MBA, has been assisting local churches in their financial management for over 30 years. He has a BS from Purdue University and a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University. He formed DLS Financial Solutions, LLC for the purpose of assisting churches, businesses and individuals in the management of their finances. Don was the Chief Financial Officer for one of the regional banks in the National City family of banks and he was the financial controller of several large construction companies in central Indiana. He has given presentations throughout the United States. He has been the treasurer, Chairman of Finance and Chairman of Trustees in the local church as well as serving on the District Board of Church Location and the Council on Finance and Administration. Don is uniquely qualified to aid those without formal training in finance to deal with the many complex issues that confront them in their personal lives and in the management of the finances of the local church.
