Part 1a: Apr 27, 2007 (Fri 10AM-4PM)

New Life UMC, Mexico, IN (all sessions)

appointed North Indiana ministers, full or part time: $40 total for both sessions

CLERGY ONLY

Skill area 1, 4, 7 or 8 - What?

This two-day seminar is for all ministers who are moving to a new appointment this year and the Cabinet strongly urges all to attend. (One registration covers both seminars $40). Ministers who are in seminary for the April seminar, or whose appointment was not in place at that time, are encouraged to register for the June seminar, which will be a repeat of the April seminar. All participants are expected to attend both seminars.

The purpose of the two days is to help ministers make their move a good one by leaving well and getting off to a positive start in their new church.

The first session in April or June, will include such topics as:

  • Leaving well and saying “Good Bye” to your old church
  • Preparing for your new church before you arrive
  • Having a good “first Sunday” in your new church
  • Developing a strategy for ministerial leadership in the first few weeks and months.

The second session in August will include sections on:

  • Leadership styles
  • Date management
  • Keeping family and career issues in focus.

Rev. Anderson has been teaching the “Making a Good Move” seminar for several years. Prior to 1997, he co-taught with Bishop Michael C. Coyner. This experience has resulted in the book by Bishop Coyner, Making a Good Move.

Recommended prior reading: Making a Good Move by Bishop Michael C. Coyner, (Abingdon, 1999).
