Your Career is Not Your Vocation
Understanding and Interpreting Christian Vocation Today
Dr. Gregory Clapper
This workshop will focus on seeing how Christian vocation is best understood and lived out—and the answer may surprise you!
By looking at scripture texts, the work of several contemporary theologians and studying film clips from a few select Hollywood films, Dr. Clapper will explore several fundamental themes that help us understand the nature of Christian “calling.” Among the themes are:
- The two most common misunderstandings of Christianity.
- How should Christians understand the nature of work?
- How does God’s call interact with our free will and the various circumstances of our lives?
- What images should guide us in discerning our call and trying to live out our call in the world?
- Just how should we understand the intersection between “career” and “calling?”
DR. GREGORY CLAPPER is an ordained Elder in the Iowa Annual Conference and is Professor of Religion and Philosophy at the University of Indianapolis.
