CLERGY/LAITY

Skill area 1, 3, 7 or 8 - What?

This course is designed to outline basic characteristics of high potential leaders in the church—both clergy and laity. It will also explore how these characteristics are best used for optimal ministry impact that is contextual for the setting. The future growth and vitality of United Methodist congregations will depend upon leaders that understand how to reach new target groups—engaging and relating them to relevant ministries that will form them in the faith. Beyond faith formation, leaders will have to teach and support new attendees and members how to facilitate this process in others.

DR. SHERRY DANIELS is a lifelong United Methodist and her home church is Trinity United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. She has served as the Executive Director and Campus Minister at the Wesley Foundation-- Texas Southern University, Associate Council Director for Christian Education and Teaching Ministries for the Texas Annual Conference for eight years, and Senior Pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Northwest Houston.
